🌉 The Bridge of Union — Santa Rosa de Dinamarca

A story of connection, effort and hope — Fundación Metsa Nete, Ucayali, Peru

Before the Bridge

I still remember walking that path — back then, there was no bridge. Only a narrow, muddy trail winding through the dense jungle, slippery and steep, burning under the midday sun. Each step was a test of patience and balance.

When I was invited by the community of Santa Rosa de Dinamarca, I stayed for two weeks — long enough to feel the rhythm of life there: the laughter, the songs, the sounds of machetes echoing through the forest. But when the rains came, everything changed. The trail vanished beneath the mud. What had been difficult before became impossible. The only way to leave was by boat, drifting slowly down the brown river, away from the heart of the forest.

Now, the bridge stands where that difficult path once lay. It brings a strange mix of feelings — pride and nostalgia. Yes, it connects lives and opens opportunities, but it also marks the end of a certain kind of isolation, of that raw authenticity that once defined the village.

Still, I know this bridge is a blessing. It carries hope, effort, and unity across the river — a promise that tomorrow will be easier, that the community’s children will reach their schools without fear, that products from the farms will find their way to the markets, and that the people of Ucayali can finally move freely again.

The Bridge of Union

Under the burning sun of Ucayali, where trees whisper to the wind and the river mirrors the dreams of its people, rises a creation born from will and community — The Bridge of Union. It is more than wood and nails — it is a story written by many hands.

Community bridge construction in Peru

Between Santa Rosa de Dinamarca and Nueva Luz, the people joined forces. Led by Master Builder Julio Ernesto Cauper Souza, together with Max Cauper García, Sandro García, Edo García, Abraham Franchini and Marcos García, they worked under the heat of the jungle, day after day, plank after plank.

“We want our children to cross safely to school,” says Julio, “for our products to reach the markets, and for life to flow again between our villages.”
Hands working for the community

Today, the bridge stands 95% complete. Only the final earth connection remains — the moment when the structure will fully unite both sides. With it, the community will finally be able to transport harvests, livestock, and handmade crafts toward the city. Tourism will follow, bringing more opportunities and income.

Unity and collaboration on the bridge

The Fundación Metsa Nete, led by Diógenes García Sánchez, proudly supported this dream. “When a community believes in itself,” says Diógenes, “even the river must step aside.”

Soon, the sound of laughter and music will echo across the water. Children will run, elders will smile, and the bridge will shine like a golden thread woven between worlds — a path from past to future, from effort to unity.
